UPDATE: Wow! This thing is taking off. I've found one fifth generation poster, and have enjoyed reading as many as I can. Good job everyone? Is anyone a tenth generation? Can you trace it?
****
Quick: What were you doing ten, twenty and thirty years ago?
Ten years ago: I lived in Edmonds, Washington in a blue house with white trim. We had a white picket fence that Patrick and our friend Dave Spiro built. We attended Sunrise Christian Fellowship. I was newly pregnant with my third child, Julia, feeling sick to my stomach. I helped format newsletters and wrote in my spare moments. I was a full time mommy, and I reveled in taking walks with my friend Kathy. My closest most amazing friend was Stacey. My hair was brown, not blond. I was out of shape, but I weighed less than I do now (go figure). I loved to cook and I had an amazing group of really fun friends.
Twenty years ago: I was attending Pacific Lutheran University, majoring in English. I lived in a dorm and lamented dorm food. My dearest friend was Julie. We had amazing adventures together. I sang in coffeehouses, attended Puget Sound Christian Center, and was far too anal-retentive about grades. I was too skinny. I had a great group of Christian friends who prayed me through college. God healed me of much during that year of my life. I think that's the year (gasp!) that I got a perm.
Thirty years ago: I was in the fifth grade, with the meanest teacher of my elementary career. We lived in an old white clapboard house on several acres. In two months, my biological father would be dead. My best friend was Amber. I had horses, stringy hair, and was mildly interested in grades. I walked to school. We lived near a convenience store where I discovered the beauty and joy of frozen yogurt, way before TCBY made it popular.
****
All right, I'm going to tag some of you. It's an experiment to see how many degrees we can separate (kind of like Kevin Bacon, only it's relevantblog). Even if you're not tagged, don't be crabby, just take up the baton and run with it. Here's what I ask: Have folks post their 10-20-30s, and then link back to the Mother Ship (http://www.relevantblog.blogspot.com/) or write a comment here, saying where you heard about this experiment and sharing where you blog. This isn't to build my empire, it's to find out how far we can expand the blogosphere. After all this talk about blog tours, it got me thinking. How many people can one blog potentially reach?
So here are my tags (7 girls 5 boys, 12 bloggers in all, like a mixed bag of disciples):
Melodee (loves dark chocolate like me)
Randy (a guru of marketing and fiction)
Jen (though she's like twenty something and has no thirty year history YET!)
Sandi (my friend who's getting her PhD...Go, go, go!)
Little Bridget (though she's a youngster herself...hey Bridget, you need to meet Jen, she's in Oregon right now!)
Anne of Not Green Bagels (who I will MISS when she moves)
Marcus (need more men on this... Marcus, meet Randy)
Ragamuffin Diva (who cheers me up with truth)
Spaghetti Pie (another youngling who makes great bagels)
Wildfire Rob (Now, Rob, think of this as an experiment in marketing. Oh, and meet Randy and Marcus)
Justin (Jen's hubby . . . Justin, say HEY to Rob, Randy and Marcus)
Ro (Ro, you know Justin. I thought I'd include a Dutchman(person) in this thing to make it international)
So let the linking and socializing and experimenting begin!

Well, I got the ball rolling over at Farm Fresh. This should be fun!
Am I really the first commenter?
Well, I'll be... (best read with a Southern accent)
Hooray Jessica! Thanks for participating and being the first one to comment. And, how cool that you tagged more.
Hey Mary...I didn't know you were from Washington (or at least grew up here). Me too... 10-20-30, what an AWESOME idea...10 years ago (well, actually it was 13 in July) I bought my wedding gown in Edmonds at Elaine of Edmonds. :)
I grew up in Snohomish (as did the three previous generations of my family) and went to college in Olympia at the Evergreen state college. Got married, moved to Louisiana, Georgia back to WA, then in 2000 moved to Montana (that's where I met my dear and lovely Tricia). Last December we moved back to WA and now live in Seattle.
Do you ever come back?
Mary, thanks for this opportunity. Just recently I started my blog and have been looking for opportunities to connect others to it. It's a devotional/refreshment type blog that I hope will minister to many and also help point unbelievers to the Lord.
Thanks again!
Carla couldn't leave a comment here, but check out her post at http://www.thespiritualmom.com/default.asp?id=10857&permid=451
Hi Mary, a different Carla here. What a fun idea. Thinking back puts it all in perspective. I've launched the "tag" at Carla's Writing Cafe (www.carlastewart.blogspot.com)and tagged an international reader, too - Izitjo from Australia. Can't wait to see what happens.
I'll get on this. I'll just go back 25 years instead.
A fun trip down memory lane...I posted over at www.sherritobias.com.
Thanks for the idea!
amyanne, yep, a Seattlelite. Born in Seattle, raised in Burien, Alki, Renton, Enumclaw and Issaquah. Graduated from PLU. Lived there until 31. Last time I was home was Thanksgiving 2003. It's pricey for a family of five to fly!
Cheryl, I look forward to your blog post.
Carla, thanks for all those viral links!
Bridget, GREAT pictures. You were (and are still) adorable!
Sherri, thanks for playing!
Yea! I got it work! Thanks Mary for leaving a message for me.
This is a great idea! I loved playing tag as a kid.
Thanks Mary for starting this round robin game.

Contact me so I can talk to you about Northwest Christian Writers. We're always looking for speakers and workshop leaders.
I followed your profile but didn't see your contact info--but of obviously I'm not very computer savvy.
See Mary--this game of tag is working!

Looks like I'm a second-generation poster. I found out about this from Sandi's blog and posted on mine at www.homeschoolblogger.com/3rsandahug. What a fun idea - and a great twist on the typical blog tags!

Not sure how many takers I will get since my blog is fairly new, but it will be fun to see what happens!

And, I'm trying to read and comment on everyone's post, but it may become a hairdo where I can no longer do it. But I'm trying.
Hi, Mary, No one tagged me, so I just ran with it. (Not sure it was a good idea, revealing age and such!) I tagged others. Very interesting and I'm enjoying reading what everyone was doing all that way back then. Am I your oldest? Ack! Ack! But I feel so young. Sigh.

I got tagged by Melinda above. This was interesting because it made me remember good and not so good, and made me see how much my life has changed and been blessed since then. I wonder where I'll be 10 years from now???

Ok, Giz got me too, I'm in California, I tagged a few, we'll see!
I'm new to blogging, but found this interesting. It seems you get so busy you forget what you were doing 10, 20, 30 years ago and responding to the challenge reminded me how far I've come!
I'm a native Californian, but spend time in Kingston Washington visiting a dear cousin.
I was tagged by http://burgeeblogs.blogspot.com/

Hi Mary, I clock in at six degrees of separation, if I count back along the tags correctly. You can see the chain at
my post.
You'll find that we lived in the same area 20 years ago, and we even share a very, very tenuous connection via PLU.
It was a fun exercise, thanks.
aaron@justaaron.com
I don't know how many layers mine is, but I posted here: http://poorinspirit.blogspot.com/2007/11/tagged-ten-twenty-and-thirty-years-ago.html
Hi Mary,
Thank you for the inspiration. I've posted my 30-20-10 blog post at my site http://www.amid.com/werd/its-that-time-of-the-year-again/
I timed it with my birthday so it became a retrospection post for me.
regards,
Rudy
