I'm the weirdo in my little family. I'm the one who insists we venture to the very front of our large suburban church so I can feel more a part of the worship. I'm the one who juts hands into the air, who will stand up when no one stands (in the entire church) because I can't help but stand to worship the Lord. I probably embarrass my family.
But this morning while I was singing, I opened my eyes for a moment to see my daughter Julia's hands jutting toward the heavens, worshiping God in abandon. Throughout her time in worship, she seemed deeply engaged, alive.
And suddenly I didn't feel so alone. And I felt deeply humbled and joyful. My little girl is growing into a worshiper.
(Now this is not to say those who don't raise their hands aren't worshiping. Au contraire! I know everyone's different. But it tickled me to see my daughter catch a whiff of the abandon I'd experienced during the musical portion of worship.)

That is sweet, Mary. I also sit in the front of my church to be more engaged. I am too easily distracted by people watching to sit back. I'm sure that was a sight to see your daughter catch the spirit. So special. My oldest had his first communion today. (We're a mixed religion family.) It was special to see him engaged. He is a big Bible reader, and I just pray that stays with him.
I pray it stays with him too.
Dear Mary,
Keep standing when no one else stands. She is watching you. Remember, more is caught than taught! This past fall, during Family Weekend at my daughter's college, while we were attending Sunday morning service, I glanced over to see my daughter with arms lifted high. My heart melted. I couldn't stop the tears. She is my dear, quiet, little lamb of a daughter, who had never expressed her faith in such a manner. Seeing her eyes closed and hands lifted was the greatest joy known. Aren't we so richly blessed? Having grown up WITHOUT this example, God has seen fit to bless us with such beautiful families. Thank you for sharing this intimate expression of God!
What a beautiful moment to see that! I am a mover. While at church, if worship is happening, my feet are moving. I'm usually one of the only ones in our church who sways. So, I get the weirdo prize in my family too. :D
I also wanted to tell you how excited I am I won Daisy Chain in a blogging contest and I can't wait to read it!!!

Wendy, I'm a mover too!
Janell, great story about your daughter!
Pure, sincere worship. I can imagine the Lord smiling and tapping His feet.
Blessings
